A few of the other things that are not listed on this website are:
- If you are having ice water poured on you, your feet must be submerged and the length of time that the water is being poured on you has to be at least 10 seconds long.
- If you choose to do this as an ice bath, you must submerge your head in the water. OR you must stay in the ice water bath for at least 10 seconds.
The stipulations of my husband's challenge were that you had to complete the challenge within 24 hours, if not, you have to donate $100 to the charity of his choice. If you choose to accept the challenge, you still had to donate $10 to the charity of his choice.
We ended up doing this challenge late last night with two other friends. We stopped at a Buc-ee's gas station and purchased 6 qty 20lbs bags of ice. That is correct, 120 lbs of ice total! We have an average sized bath tub, nothing too big or too small. We filled the bath tub with a little bit of cold water then added all 6 bags of ice. We filled the remainder of the bath tub with cold water so that the volume of the bath tub was about 80% full. We allowed the ice water to sit for a little bit so that the water would get as close as possible to the temperature of the ice. Water freezes at 32F so the ice was at least 32F. The average temperature of the ice water bath was 33.5F. This was measured using a laser thermometer.
I STFU (Spartaned The F*** Up) and wanted to go first! I had no problem getting into the ice water bath, laying in it, and completely submerging my face for a second. I didn't scream, didn't complain, and didn't panic. I conquered this obstacle like a true Spartan! Here is my video:
The charity I chose to donate to is The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) through Team in Training (TNT). I am running the Houston Chevron Marathon with TNT in January of 2015 to help support LLS. If you would like to make a donation or to learn more about LLS or TNT please see the links below.
